With only a few days before election day, I have been speaking with people and reading blogs about reasons why Filipinos vote for their candidates. I have compiled a list of outrageous reasons why they vote for their candidates. Here are some:

1. I have his sticker on my car.
2. He's giving a lot of houses, I might have one.
3. He's my idol, he gave me a shirt.
4. He's cute.
5. My crush/ showbiz idol is supporting him.
6. He didn't give me a baller, I'll just go for another candidate.
7. He's good so he wouldn't be corrupt.
8. He has great parents.
9. He's the one who's going to win anyway.
10. He's already rich, he wouldn't steal anymore.
11. He always smiles.
12. and a lot more.

Public officials will hold office for either 3 or 6 years. Let's take this election seriously. Let's vote wisely. Investigate. Be a proud voter of your candidate.

God bless!

Why I chose Gordon over Bro. Eddie

Disclaimer: This blog is meant to explain my stand and not to create war. Feel free to post comments about what I wrote but I hope you read the whole thing first before you judge it. I have a lot of friends who are Bro. Eddie supporters and I love and respect them. I hope people will also view this as it is. Last thing that I want is to create chaos among the body of Christ because of my preferences.

It took me some time before I started posting stuff about politics in Facebook and in Multiply. I was afraid to post anything about it because I know I'll have people who'll disagree with me and then I realized that God made me a political creature. I wanted to voice out my thoughts. I just needed the guidance that I wouldn't go out of bounds with my comments. I still go within the boundaries of platforms and motives, not the candidates' personal lives.

Before I wrote this, I asked myself if there was a need to go public to explain myself. It could have been easier if I just kept it to myself but I guess that's where campaign comes in.

I did my research before I chose my candidate. I like his platforms and his track record is promising. The question now is "Is that already enough?". Being pitted against Bro. Eddie, there's one major thing that he has and my candidate doesn't, being a Christian.

I admire Bro. Eddie's courage in running for presidency. I respect him being a leader of an international congregation. I saw him during rallies (meaning I was also there). I like the fact that he speaks up and calls people to pray in the streets with people with different agendas when there are injustices. He also inspired a lot of Christians to run for office. I know that he used to be an activist. He also has good platforms. I have nothing against him personally. I just have to look at things on a wider perspective.

Gordon's no saint. He has short-temper. He admitted that on national television. He wants to have more patience. In short, he's not perfect and so are we.

How I wish he's a Christian, a Christian who is a work in progress and shares the same faith as mine. He's not and let me explain why I'm still voting for him.

I'm not going to go on details about their experiences in politics because clearly Gordon has the advantage. I'll just talk about stuff outside experience. He doesn't have record of graft and corruption or human rights abuse or atleast no one filed against him about these stuff. He has the most detailed statement of assets and liabilities among all the candidates, explaining the increase of his wealth. He's not involved in any controversy. He has a great platform for education. He plans to increase the salaries of teachers to P40,000. He believes that if we have the best teachers in school, our educational system will be okay. His leadership style is to provide the vision to the people towards the direction of progress and not to just clean up the mess of the previous administration. He can walk the talk.

I also like the fact of how he believes in volunteerism because he was a volunteer himself. A lot of people from diverse backgrounds are doing their part to contribute to his campaign. We make up for the lack of tv ads.

I believe God uses different people for His purposes, believers and non-believer alike. I can't just withhold giving my vote to Gordon just because he's not Christian even if he's very much experienced for the post.

This doesn't mean though that I wouldn't vote for senatoriables who didn't have background in politics before entering the senate. It's just different when it's the presidency.

I know that in the end of the day it's God who'll win in this election. His will will prevail. I also believe that He gave us wisdom to discern who to choose.

Let's vote for the candidates whom we believe in whether it's Gordon or Bro. Eddie or any of the others.

God bless us all!
